A certificate, $50 cash and a 1 year DSA membership.

The 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winner's lyrics and judges critiques will be published in the DSA “Songwriters Notes” and on the DSA Website.

LYRIC CONTEST RULES


Deadline for Entries: 

Winter - March 31st

  • You must submit a separate entry form for EACH lyric you enter. Photocopy for additional forms. Read the following song contest rules carefully. Signing the entry form signifies that you have read and agreed to all contest rules


1. The DSA Lyric Contest is open to any lyricist.

2. Judges and their families are not eligible to enter.

3. Enter as many lyrics as you like HOWEVER, you must send an entry form, fee, & lyrics TYPED for each entry (Sorry, no handwritten lyrics will be accepted.) EACH LYRIC CAN ONLY WIN FIRST PLACE ONE TIME. There are no categories, however, intended genre(s) for lyric submitted is suggested to guide judge’s critique.

4. All entries must be received by no later than midnight on the deadline date. DSA is not responsible for lost, damaged or misdirected entries.

5. Entry material WILL NOT BE RETURNED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. DO NOT SEND YOUR ONLY COPY OR S.A.S.E.

6. The decision of the judges if final!

7. Entrants agree that if their song is a winner of any prize in the contest, the sponsors and DSA will have the right to publicize the winners names and likeness, and reprint the winning lyrics in the DSA "Songwriters Notes" newsletter and/or website. By accepting the prize, winner releases DSA of any and all liability regarding prizes awarded. All warranties and performance of services promised are the sole responsibility of the sponsors providing such service.

8. Entrants retain all publishing and copyrights to their lyric(s).

9. Entries may not infringe upon any existing copyright or other rights of a third party. By signing the entry form, the entrant agrees to release DSA from any and all liability for copyright infringement of any entry submitted by entrant.

10. Lyrics of previous first prize winning songs of any DSA sponsored annual song or lyric contest are excluded.

Instructions for Online Entry:
Note from Webmaster: Please Be Patient with Our Online Entry Process.We are working on making the entry process much simpler in the near future. If you find our server down, you may email us the lyric and send the check in the mail. We will accept entries by email on or before the deadline once the payment by mail has been confirmed.
Please Note When Entering Online, Your Entry Fee is Collected by our E-Commerce Store. 
1. Browse for the Lyric Contest, hit "Find".
2. On the lyric contest page, type the number of your entry (i.e., 1, 2, etc...) in the small box, then paste your lyrics in the area provided. You must enter one lyric at a time, please!
3. When you are finished, click on the "Buy" button ONLY ONCE! on the far left side of the screen.
4. While still on this same page, proceed to "Cart"...click the green button to the left to 'checkout'. You will see the Checkout button at the bottom of the page, click on that and confirm your transaction.
5. You then will be asked for a Member ID, and password. You probably don't have one or can't remember, so just fill it out and proceed to payment by credit card.
7. Enter your chosen password in the "Member ID" line. You do not need to fill out your music preferences... just basic contact info in red.
8. Hit "continue" at the bottom of the page after checking to be sure the info is correct. You will then get a Member ID (in place of the password you entered). It's advisable to copy and paste this info in an email to yourself to remember that number so you don't have to fill out all that info the next time.
9. After completing your payment, you will receive an email confirmation of your payment,

You can submit your lyrics by emailWe confirm by email both the payment as it is accepted and the lyric when it is received. Confirmation may not be immediate, but should be within 24 hours.
